Scott D. Jones
Mr. Jones earned a Bachelor of Music Education from Saginaw Valley State University where he student taught with Mr. Paul Lichau, the current MSBOA Executive Director, in the Carrollton Public Schools in 1998. While in college, Mr. Jones served stints as Marching Percussion Instructor for the Unionville-Sebewaing Area Marching Band, Saginaw High School Marching Band and the St. Clair High School Marching Band. He was named the "Marching Band Musician of the Year" at SVSU in 1994.
Mr. Jones began his teaching career at Muskegon High School and Steele Middle School in the Muskegon Public Schools as part of a four director team in 1998 and taught there until 2008. While in Muskegon, Mr. Jones conducted the Muskegon High School Symphonic Band, Concert Band and the award winning MHS Zero Hour Jazz Lab I. In addition to team teaching the Big Red Marching Band, Mr. Jones served as the percussion arranger for nine of his ten teaching years.
During his tenure in Muskegon, Mr. Jones saw Concert, Marching and Jazz Bands earn numerous First Division Ratings at MSBOA Festivals, Jazz Lab I being named "Outstanding Band" at the WMU Jazz Festival in on two occasions, the lead tenor saxophone player in Jazz Lab I being named 1st Chair for the MSBOA Honors Jazz Ensemble in 2008 and the MHS Zero Hour Jazz Lab I earning First Place in the Orlando Musicfest Jazz Competition in 2003 and 2007. Mr. Jones also received the "Excellence in Education Award" presented by the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation in May of 2002.
Mr. Jones then taught in the Almont Community Schools from 2008 to 2012 where his bands received First Division Ratings at both the District and State levels of MSBOA. He also began an Almont Middle School Jazz Band and served as the Almont High School and Marysville High School Percussion Instructor.
Mr. Jones came to Port Huron High School in August of 2012 and has proudly seen the Big Reds host the annual MSBOA Marching Band Festival, the MSBOA Junior High Band Festival and the BWAC Marching Band Festival. In 2014-15, he helped create both the Bluewater Festival of Bands and the Bluewater Jazz Symposium to enrich the education of the Big Red Band students at Port Huron High.
